Exuding a casual elegance inside and out, this Puget Sound home was sited to take full advantage of its waterfront location. Special care was given to the foundation, roofing, siding and windows to safeguard against tidal surges and saltwater. The home’s centerpiece is a glass-box mezzanine, which offers stunning 360-degree views in addition to natural ventilation—one of the home’s many subtle sustainable elements. The serene setting inspired the soft interior color palette and prevalent use of natural materials. An expanse of lawn stretches between the home and an 800-square-foot carriage house, encouraging family activities and entertaining.
